Moonwave – 60′ Catamaran Gunboat
Moonwave, a 60′ Gunboat carbon performance cat with innovative electric propulsion.
This 60’ Gunboat built in 2012 has undergone a significant refit at JFA Yachts focusing on improving the boat’s performances.
The boat’s crew was deeply involved in the project definition but also all along the refit phases in order to optimize this carbon catamaran.
Main tasks consisted in installing new carbon dagger boards, updating the propulsion system, fitting a new carbon boom, new paint, checking all technical systems and rebuilding a major part of interiors following new design by Christophe Chedal Anglay.
The major evolution managed by the crew was the upgrade of the Torqeedo electric propulsion to a full Deepblue Hybrid System. The retractable shaft system was replaced by saildrive system with foldable blades that can also generate power under sails. The battery pack was also significantly improved (less weight, higher performances, compact system and sealed). Solar panels of latest technology were installed on the roof. There remains only one genset, as a backup (2 gensets before).
Thanks to these innovations, Moonwave is really a cutting edge boat, silent and very performant. Thanks to the weight gained with the new propulsion system but also with new systems and interiors built in lightweight materials by the yard, the displacement has been reduced by 3.2 tons.
